Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
